Behavioral
Interviewing – Behavioral
interviewing lets the candidate tell real life examples of how they
handled actual situations. This form of interviewing
encourages job applicants to describe situations when they've utilized
skills and abilities similar to those used in the career for which
they've applied. A good rule of thumb for the candidate: Past
performance is the best predictor of future performance!
Courtesy Interview
- A short and sweet interview. The interviewer
has no desire to hire you no matter how good you are because he
either just filled the job, put the position on hold, has a hot
"date" or is just doing it as a favor to a relative. No matter
what the case, use this interview to gather information by asking
good questions. Always put your best foot forward in this interview
even if you think it is a waste of time. In the hiring business,
candidates take counter offers, get cold feet reconsider offers,
spouse relocations and anything else you can imagine.
Informational
Interviewing – An informational interview is an interview
you schedule yourself to gain valuable information about a company
or line of work. You simply find someone at another company
in the line of work you are interested in pursuing. Call that
person and ask if you can spend 15 minutes with them. Once
scheduled, asked well thought out questions to gain information.
You are getting the information to help clarify your career objectives.
Make it very clear to the person that you understand there is no
openings, you only want to gain information. When you meet
and make your lasting impression, you will have a great chance to
be considered for future positions.
Screening Interview
- This type of interview is done to take large numbers
of applicants and "screen" for certain qualifications. The
screening interview is done mostly with training or entry level
positions. You can save time to find out what they are screening.
If it is 75 wpm and you type 18wpm, don't go on the interview!
Stress
Tolerance Interview-
This interview is for the lucky people who have high stress jobs.
In a stress interview, the interviewer tries to put you in a high
stress situation. Good interviewers will get your juices flowing.
Word of caution….DON'T LOSE YOUR COOL even if you want to
throw the interviewer through the window. How you handle yourself
in these situations is the ultimate objective of the interviewer.
Structural Interviewing-
This is the " what", "where", " why" and "when" types of
questions. A very important interview and usually is a gauge
for getting to a behavioral interview. Be prepared to have
"reasons for leaving" previous positions ready and rehearsed.
Always remember, KEEP THINGS POSITIVE!
